January Wrap Up

In January I read a total of 4 books. This wasn’t as much as I wanted to read but a lot of changes in my life happened such as transferring colleges and getting a new job. So I am happy with this number however it does push me back on my 100 book challenge. I need to read 8 books each month to hit that goal so I am now 4 books behind. 😦

I loved the books I read. First I read The one in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo by Judy Blume and this also is the first book toward my Judy Blume goal of 2015. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. I didn’t realize how hard it was to read a children’s book such as this one. I didn’t connect with the characters because their situations seemed so silly to me but when you are a kid then it makes sense of the challenge in this book. This story follows a boy who is stuck in the middle of two siblings and his journey to finding that he is different and just as important as his siblings are.

Next I read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. To me this felt more like a novella than a full length novel. You can read more of my thoughts in my review here.

Next I read Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres. I gave this book 5 out of 5 star. I loved this book. Ellen is so funny and yet she tells the truth about how to live your life to the fullest. This book has a lot of advice on how to make your life about you in the simplest of ways. Ellen gives us her witty and funny stories and secrets on how she became successful and how she learned to be herself. This is the first memoir I have ever read and I loved it. I highly recommend Ellen fans to read this

Finally I read One of those Hideous Books were the Mother Dies by Sonya Sons. I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars and wrote a full review which you can read here.

I am currently reading Burned by Ellen Hopkins and loving this book! I hope to have a review up as soon as I finish.

Review: Seriously…I’m Kidding

I have always been scared of memoirs. To someone who doesn’t want to read about the history of something or even someone I have always found memoirs boring. For Christmas I was give Ellen Degeneres’s memoir, “Seriously…I’m Kidding.” This is Ellen’s third book and I was actually excited to read it because Ellen is so funny.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. You do not have to read her other two books to be able to read this one which I liked because this is the only Ellen book I own. And it’s not like a normal memoir. Ellen tells a few life stories in this book but it’s mostly advice on how to live happier.

I am so glad I read this book in the beginning of the new year. I am defiantly taking some of Ellen’s advice and applying it to my goals for this new year. It was a fast read and I was never bored. I highly recommend this book especially if you are like me and are scared of memoirs.
