January Wrap Up

In January I read a total of 4 books. This wasn’t as much as I wanted to read but a lot of changes in my life happened such as transferring colleges and getting a new job. So I am happy with this number however it does push me back on my 100 book challenge. I need to read 8 books each month to hit that goal so I am now 4 books behind. 😦

I loved the books I read. First I read The one in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo by Judy Blume and this also is the first book toward my Judy Blume goal of 2015. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. I didn’t realize how hard it was to read a children’s book such as this one. I didn’t connect with the characters because their situations seemed so silly to me but when you are a kid then it makes sense of the challenge in this book. This story follows a boy who is stuck in the middle of two siblings and his journey to finding that he is different and just as important as his siblings are.

Next I read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. To me this felt more like a novella than a full length novel. You can read more of my thoughts in my review here.

Next I read Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres. I gave this book 5 out of 5 star. I loved this book. Ellen is so funny and yet she tells the truth about how to live your life to the fullest. This book has a lot of advice on how to make your life about you in the simplest of ways. Ellen gives us her witty and funny stories and secrets on how she became successful and how she learned to be herself. This is the first memoir I have ever read and I loved it. I highly recommend Ellen fans to read this

Finally I read One of those Hideous Books were the Mother Dies by Sonya Sons. I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars and wrote a full review which you can read here.

I am currently reading Burned by Ellen Hopkins and loving this book! I hope to have a review up as soon as I finish.

Review: One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies

I read this book when I was a tween. And I remember loving it. Recently I decided to start buying some of the books that I had loved when I was a tween ( I know I know I am on a book buying ban and I am still honoring it ) and that includes all the books that Soyna Sones wrote. If you are a fan of Ellen Hopkins I think you will love Soyna Sones as well.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is written in verse so it was a quick read. In fact I read in a day. This story follows Ruby after her mother passes as she is sent of to meet her biological father for the first time. Turns out her father is a famous actor. And she hates him.

This book is about family and coming together as one. I love this story. I had actually forgot the ending from when I had read it previously and it came as a shock to me. I kinda predicted the ending but kept thinking that maybe I was wrong and so the ending was a great conclusion to this story. If you are looking for a fast read I highly recommended diving into this book.
